The Challenge
The Bellary iron ore mine covers nearly 1,200 hectares, with mining operations extending more than 400 metres underground through over 15 kilometres of tunnels. Existing lighting systems provided limited illumination of only 2,200 m² per unit, consumed around 32 litres of diesel per day and required frequent maintenance. Poor visibility affected drilling, transportation and day-to-day underground operations.
The client required a lighting solution capable of operating in high humidity, extreme temperatures and confined underground conditions. The equipment also needed to be deployed quickly, comply with mining safety standards and reduce fuel consumption while delivering reliable illumination throughout the project.
Our Solution
VR Engineering Solutions supplied and installed 32 Mobile Lighting Towers across mining faces, ventilation shafts, crusher stations and underground work zones, providing dependable illumination over approximately 420,000 square metres.
